Northplace Church’s “Heart for the House” campaign began with a 140-acre land purchase in Sachse, Texas. The church knew it had maximized potential growth at its current location and that relocation would be a crucial step in meeting future needs. Lee Architects was selected by the church and its strategic partner, Goff Companies, to provide the master planning, architecture and engineering for the project.

Phase I of the master plan construction included 52,000 square feet under roof, off-site and on-site infrastructure and associated site improvements. The church features a state-of-the-art 1,400-seat worship center, a dynamic children’s area and children’s worship areas along with a spacious commons area that acts as a central spine connecting all areas of ministry. The entire facility sits upon a suspended floor slab designed to accommodate the extremely expansive soils found in the area.

Upon entering the lobby, the congregation and visitors are drawn to the baptismal area and water feature. The custom baptistery was designed and built to match the uniqueness that is Northplace Church. With a 20-foot water-wall as the backdrop to the baptistery, a clerestory providing natural lighting flowing down the waterfall, along with the soothing sound of the water, brings the commons area to life. The commons also includes a large central lobby, a coffee bar, information kiosk and newcomers check-in area. The lobby’s 22-foot-high radius aluminum storefront and window system provides a scenic southern view from the high overlook toward downtown Dallas.

Master Plan (Northplace Church)

Sachse, Texas
Project Size: 801-2000 seats
Completion Date: June 30, 2014

One of Northplace’s greatest needs was to meet the ministry requirements of its youth. In order to provide a compelling destination, there was a heavy emphasis placed on creating an inviting atmosphere through the use of children’s theming. The children’s wing provides for a nursery space, crib rooms, special needs space and classrooms to accommodate ages up to 5- and 6-year-olds as well as first platforms, and AV and theatrical lighting equipment. They are really mini churches within themselves.

Phase I for Northplace Church was a rousing success. Lee architects and Goff Companies are thankful for the great privilege provided by Northplace and are underway with the drawings that will be Phase II.
